Mega Downwinder in Sri Lanka – From Kalpitiya to Jaffna  

 

Join us for an unforgettable kiteboarding adventure as we downwind along the untamed northwest coast of Sri Lanka, covering approx 300 km of pure kitesurfing bliss. With steady trade winds of 20-25 knots, this multi-day expedition will take you through untouched beaches, hidden lagoons, and remote fishing villages, crossing 55 km of Wilpattu National Park coastline - a truly wild and rarely seen landscape.  

 

Along the way, you’ll ride through 100s of different playgrounds, shifting terrains, and scenic backdrops, passing from flat-water stretches to rolling waves and playful shore breaks. Watch majestic sea eagles soaring overhead and, if luck is on your side, spot an elephant roaming the shoreline. The journey from Kalpitiya to Jaffna takes you to a forgotten coastline, where only a handful of people have ever kited before.

 The Ultimate Kiteboarding Route  

 

📍 Day 1: Kalpitiya – Mannar (≈90 km)  

- Departure from Dutch Bay, weaving through mangroves and island channels  

- Endless downwind stretches along the untouched coastline  

- Overnight jungle camp by the beach under the stars  

 

📍 Day 2: Mannar – Northern Coastline (≈50 km)  

- Explore hidden river mouths and endless flat-water runs  

- Pass by cliffs, ancient landmarks, and remote fishing villages  

- Rest in a comfortable guesthouse in Mannar  

 

📍 Day 3: The Final Push to Jaffna (≈110 km)  

- The longest, most intense session of the trip  

- Kite past rugged coastlines, deserted beaches, and historical sites  

- Arrive in Jaffna with the option to stay overnight or head back to the base camp  

 

 Safety & Support  

- Guided by experienced riders and IKO-Approved kitesurf-instructors

- Land support crew following the route with essential supplies  

- Boat support team available for critical sections  

- Planned rest stops for food, hydration, and gear checks
